The area is divided into three beats, which rotate daily: see Rules & Regs for details.
Motors may not be used at the South End, except in emergency. For this reason, it is customary to take a ghillie, or someone else with knowledge of the water, to help with the rowing and navigation. Drifts will be determined by wind direction, which may vary considerably in the course of a day.
Virtually the whole of the South End area is fishable, and some of the water is very shallow, especially so in Beat 1. For this reason, it is important to move quietly so as not to disturb the fish, and to avoid straying into a neighbouring beat, particularly with other boats on the water.
Special care should be taken when crossing Beat 1 en route to Beats 2 or 3.
